Last week, I had the chance to ask a few of my friends who own companies’ blog. I asked them why their companies blog. Their answers were for publishing news, new products, upcoming events, and informal stuffs.

While these are good, none of them mentioned that they blog as an Authoritative Source. Surprisingly, when I mentioned this, all of them never think blog in that perspective.

What does it mean blogging as an authoritative source? You blog useful stuffs about what you are expert in with the objective of educating the people so that they will have better understanding about your field. For instance, if you are a contractor / developer, write a few tips on how to maintain a house, remove molds, etc. If you are selling computer parts, write about the latest motherboard, provide a review, and what you think of it.

What are the benefits?

1. Enriching the community.
   When you share tips about what you are good at, the community will be blessed. People are happy and happy people are good!
2. More new customers.
   People know that you are the “expert”. This reduces the “credibility barrier”. “Credibility” has been a great challenge to gain new customers if you are relatively a new company. But, by having your blog as the authoritative source, it helps to ease out this challenge. When new clients contact you, they don’t really ask “why I should buy from you” or “show me your portfolio” since they already know that you are the expert! They just want to deal business with you.

Besides having a good web design and posts about your company in your blog, start using your blog to educate and enrich the community. “Sow and you’ll reap”. As you sow this “education” to the community, the community will bless you back!
